Our Mission

Our Philosophy

Our Philosophy

Cincinnati Blind Hockey empowers its athletes to achieve their full potential by providing the opportunity to be a part of an organized sports team, enabling everyone to benefit physically, emotionally, and socially.

Our Philosophy

Our Philosophy

Our Philosophy

In youth sports, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach for coaches to instruct players to be their best on and off the ice. Our Coaches work diligently to see each player is successful by adapting their instruction to meet each skater's abilities - cognitively and physically.

Our Program

Our Philosophy

Our Program

Our program provides a safe environment for all players and their family members. Coaches, Board of Directors and Volunteers are registered with USA Hockey, (the national governing organization), complete SafeSport Training annually, and have been cleared through USA Hockey's background screen.

if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Blind Ice Hockey is like traditional ice hockey, with only a few adaptations to make the game accessible to players who are blind or visually impaired. The most significant adaptation is the puck, which makes noise and is larger and slower than a traditional hockey puck.

Blind hockey started in Cincinnati in the summer of 2022. Canada, USA's hockey nemesis has been playing blind hockey since the 1930's: https://canadianblindhockey.com/our-history/

Cincinnati Blind Hockey (CBH) is part of a nonprofit organization, Cincinnati Sled Hockey, (2007) offering youth and adults living with a physical impairment an adapted form of ice hockey.   EIN: 85-3604639.

Cincinnati Blind Hockey is for persons living with blindness or visual impairment, thus cannot participate in sighted hockey.

CBH's goal is to assist its players to achieve a skill level in which they are capable of playing games against other blind hockey programs.  Neighboring cities with teams include: Columbus, OH; Indianapolis, IN.; Chicago, IL; and Pittsburgh, PA.

The puck is oversized, heavy, and has ball bearings inside so it can be heard when moving.

The rules are modified and involve coach/volunteer assistance during play as well as whistle blowing to identify a completed pass in the offensive zone.

Hockey practices are on Sundays mornings or early afternoon, October through March, each season (times are based on rink scheduling)

Practices are 50 minutes long, twice a month.

There is no fee to participate. INSTEAD:

(1) Players and families commit to attend each scheduled practice so they have the best opportunity to improve.  This also benefits the team by having enough people on the ice to practice and learn new skills.

(2) We ask players and families to commit to being on-time and prepared for all practices, scrimmages and games.

(3) Players are expected to arrive 30 minutes before each practice so they can get dressed and be ready to get on the ice promptly at the start of each practice.

When learning to skate:

- dress in layers so you can remove a piece of clothing if you get too warm

- wear long pants

- wear socks that go several inches ABOVE your ankles

- bring gloves you would wear in the snow

- wear a certified hockey helmet with a face cage (provided by CBH)
